Monitoring SEO performance + Data based Optimization

6 Min. Read

Your friendly analyst, Peter, here to help you get better results through the use of data and by monitoring SEO performance!

According to SEO Tribunal there are 63,000 searches being made on Google Search……

…… every second.

Being the top candidate of a Google search obviously means huge amount of traffic to your site, for FREE.

I’m going to show you how to optimize your site for Google, only in 5 minutes using Conversific.

You’ll get the answers to these top 4 questions:

Let’s jump in.

Table of Contents

What's my current performance?

Log in first, then select SEO report.

As always, you need to determine your baseline first.

Sessions, Conversion Rate and Revenue are all important for the organic channel.

For example, everything’s green here so this store improved in every important aspect of SEO, compared to the previous same-length time period.

That’s great

🎉 What’s next?

Here you can see the trends, and you can compare your results year over year.

What’s interesting here is that this store earns considerably less compared to a year before. Ouch. This is obviously a big red alarm!

So if this was your Shopify site then you’d probably not be happy about what you have found while monitoring SEO performance with Conversific – there are some clear improvements to be made.

Let’s check your competitors. Click on Benchmarks and go to Marketing Channels.

Now, we can put things into much-needed context even more.

When monitoring SEO performance vs competitors your store is doing all right, but there is a decline YoY, which normally should be easy to fix. This means more revenue of course.

Also, it looks like that there is money left on the table by underutilizing organic traffic, and SEO since only 11% of the whole traffic comes from Organic. This screams lack of proper SEO.

In this case, determining the optimal keywords and start focusing on them should do the trick.

Which keywords generate money for me?

Okay, now, I want you to find your keywords, search phrases generating you the most amount of money.

You can find this info also in the Conversific’s SEO report.

Once you have your best performing phrases you need to identify the low hanging fruits and go for them.

You have to understand that seeing a return on your SEO efforts normally is a long process, but this trick can get you results, and get your results quickly. Mostly because it is extremely difficult to see how much money (if at all) you made on a certain keyword / key phrase. This is where Conversific can make your life way easier.

What’s more, you’re not only able to see the income already generated, but the potential revenue growth coming from a search.site.

Keep an eye on your organic landing pages!

Which keywords should I optimize for?

Order your keywords by expected revenue growth.

These are your best performing keywords FOR THE FUTURE.

You need to focus on these keywords.

Now, I want you take pay closer attention to the details, because optimizing can mean a couple of different things.

Note: This won’t be a detailed description, but you can get the idea about what to fix if you see certain things.

1st is your best key phrase, but it has a low CTR.

Find out why. What people are looking for when searching for this phrase?

2nd have absolutely terrible CTR, however, compared to that the CR is not so bad.

Improve CTR here and earn waaaay more.

Make it more relevant. Make the meta tag description more engaging. Here you can find a detailed article on how to write great headlines.

5th – good amount of click.

So, it’s definitely worth your attention.

Poor Conversion rate.

Make your pages this keyword drives traffic to perform better. (See the next block)

6th-7th -Everything’s great, but the amount of traffic.

Try to rank better for these keywords. So go from about 5 to 1st place.

I think you see where I’m going with this. You need to analyze traffic coming through these key phrases and by taking care of the skeletons in the closet first, you can see incredible performance improvement in a short time period.

However, as I’ve mentioned, there is something else which you should be focusing on.

Landing Pages

Take a look at your Organic Landing Pages.

These are the pages where people land on, by searching for one of the keywords/ key phrases. Order the list by visits.

You can see that the first landing page is quite efficient. Nice job on this one.

The 2nd one gets lots of visits, an awful conversion rate, and a fairly high bounce rate.

You should definitely feel the urge to check this out if this was your store.
(Especially since it is a category page)

In the case of the 3rd and the 4th page, there is a huuuge bounce rate.

There were 300 + chances to sell, but people got here, puked and ran away.

Most probably they never-ever going to come back.

This happens too many times.

It can easily happen for your store also. In this case, the top landing page has awesome performance, but the rest is quite the opposite.

Keep an eye on your organic landing pages!

Conclusion

This framework is usually more than enough by itself to get a store from zero to hero and achieve positive cash flow in a short time period.

Use it to find your baseline, identify the skeletons in the closet, fix them, track performance boost and earn more money than you spend.
